Alrighty,
Last weekend and we are now finished. Here is the run down of what we covered just incase you might of missed it. I will be following the syllabus to organize it.

1. ROI workshop
-we talked about roi and used the link from wiki to view the ROI model
-we then talked about calculating the ROI Doc gave us some important formulas to do this
-First Doc handed out this paper describing all the formulas located on the link above.
-Then we were given a practise exercise for caculating ROI in a scenario, Doc pretty much gave us all the information we just had to plug it in and come up with the ROI
-After we accomplished that Doc gave out a more difficult scenario. In this on we had to find all the information using or CALCULATORS we had some math to do to figure out all the necessary information for the cost.

2. Reflection Prep
-we all went around the room and had 90seconds to talk about what we learned, like, found interesting about the course.
-every one pretty much said the same things....loved the class, thought it was going to more difficult, wish the class was front loaded in the WED program, loved how well the class meshed together.....lisa cried

3. Blog entries online
-we each were given a paper to track someone else in the classes discussions and blog entries to make sure they were in on time and/or completed at all. End result people found out that they have alot of makeup to do.

4. Exam creation
-we paired up and wrote a question on something from 463.
-we posted up on the board and good 463 fashion ripped them apart...good fun
-over all we did much better we established the need for clear direction in circling either the letter or answer....
-some people got mad others enjoyed the exercise and appreciated the fact that there was growth in quick and well completed the questions

Now these items did not necessarily take place in that order but were done all the same. Please check out the wikispaces page for new post or items you might have missed. Most of us did not even know there was a ROI page.

Ok well that was the last class for this semester man did it go by rather quick. Must say for all it seemed to be the course we all enjoyed the most. It is sad to see it go but a new begining comes from some other beginings end. Its bitter sweet but its progression in our program and for some the end of a long year. Doc Ackerman was a breath of fresh air compared to others. The blend of online and seated class time was new and very easy to enjoy. I will pull many tools away with me from this course and they will be ontop my instructor toolbelt waiting to be used. For now i wipe the sweat form my brow and giggle with anticipation for the next class and adventure....

Alright so i am home and back to work. Took me a minute to catch up on all my missed work. I think i have a good understanding on what i missed. I have been slaving away on the test maker assignment. I have completed my rubric and also designed a test. I will be sending it out to some of my family and friends (at least 5). I will then gather their feedback and make adjustments. I have also been surfing around my blog trying to add some more elements.

My real job has been a tough cookie to catch up on too. Multiple things happening at once and the taskings keep coming. It is definately good to be home. Monday-friday are slave slave slave. This weekend i plan on relaxing hopefully.

Hey all,
I'm back!!!!! Wow what a TDY. Extremely busy and much work was accomplished. I had alot of unique experiences. I was given the opportunity to meet and instruct teams from 3 different countries. I was responsible for evaluating 28 different teams from all of the country and world. Unfortunately i wasn't able to get computer access for the TDY. My backup plan to have my wife check from home on our home computer was also busted up. We had our computer crash and then a string of drama with dealing with Bestbuy. Long story short when it rains it pours. Well screw all that, im back and now i am setting gears to overdrive to catch up. I have missed alot i can tell from surfing around wikispaces. I can't wait until the next meeting.

Hey all,
Well since i am unable to attend this weekends classes i am going to attempt to take the initiative and go along with the syllabus and utilize the internet to find the information. I will be bouncing what i find against what you all have on your blogs. Hopefully i do alright. so here it goess......

Test Creation Guidelines.

Now i understand this blog is pretty crude and not that informative. I want to however point out the fact that reguardless what i have wrote down. If tasked with designing a test or a critiques for a certain course i have plenty of tools and references at my fingertips. All you have to do is look. I am creating this blog now because i dont know how much computer access i will have over my TDY. I am trying to satisfy the requirements for this course by completing a blog. I will find a way to check online a couple of time while i am gone but dont know the frequency. Well i wish you all well and i look foward to reading your blogs about this coming weekend. I will be adding to this posting once i have more to go off of.

Wow it was a crazy weekend. The course content was not too insane. I think most people had issues with all the technology. For most its a new idea and we haven't really been introduced to it. The class was fun and as far as comfort level i think i am feeling alright. It was definately long days but there was alot of information to wade through. So below is going to be all the notes we went over in class. I will try to structure the notes in accordance with the syllabus layout.

Levels of Evaluation

Reaction- (improve,validate,collect data) attitude/opinion

Reaction is the step of collecting information via surveys, people give opinions and feelings rather than hard facts.

Learning- (monitor in controlled training classroom) performance/assessment

Learning is the training portion where you are following training objectives and you are being tested in a controlled training venue. (from here we dove into the types of assessments)

Pre/before..."placement or guage your knowledge"
Pre requisite-required to attend
Post-after course is complete
Embedded-during/through course

Transfer-can you take your skills out to the real world

Transfer is the level where you are not training in a controlled enviroment anymore. You having a on the job assessment or if you are a phone operator you are taking actual calls from real customers.

Business Impact- real numbers and figures on improvements or progress made

Business impact is the add number value to training. If there is a certain percent increase or decease. Dont get this confused with a montary value.

ROI- (return on investment) dollars and cents/compares program business to its cost

Return on investment is plain and simply the bottomline. How much money did we save, did, we earn. A no "BS" dollar number.

NOTE: Donald Kirkpatrick is responsible for levels 1-4, Jack Phillips added in level 5

Evauation Myths

This was an exercise in groups of two. We drew out of a hat one of the 10 evaluation myths. We then discussed in a group if we agreed or disagreed with the myths. I will list them below.

My boss does not require me evalaution, so why should we do it?
Measuring progress towards objectives doesn't work for evaluation
Too many variables affects the behavior change so i can't evaluate impact.
In my own situation, I can't measure the result of my training efforts.
I have a proven track record, so I don't need to justify my existence.
I am not sure where to begin...what information to collect.
Measurement is only appropriate in production and financial areas.
If i can't calculate the ROI, then program evaluation is worthless.
Evaluation is too expensive.
If we conduct evaluation, we'll get criticized.

We established that each myth is just that.....a myth.

We also went into the Perfomance Gap Analysis. This was brought up when we discussed the 6th myth. I found a site that has outline almost exactly like the instructor.

We went online and found websites that had information on test setup or format. We made corrections to the paper and then discussed. From there we were put into groups again and were tasked with creating our own test questions. We discovered it is not an easy task.

Aha: You have to be extremely specific when writing a question, know your desired outcome and have on answer.

The last tasking we were handed as we left was an ISD model project. Go to the same link above and look at ISD exercise. We were put into groups and given a due date by 10 july @ 1700.

Recap:

Class was fast pace and if someone would have missed this weekend they would be behind the power curve. If you buckle down and do your work this is a very do-able class.

This stuff is crazy. I'm trying to get the hang of it all. Technology is amazing. Just imagine what our kids will be able to do. I know all this internet activity isn't the main purpose for this WED course but i think this information and new skills will be the most beneficial.
